HANDCUT HOLLOW

BENTONVILLE, AR

2020 - 2021

The “Hand-Cut Hollow” was born out of a need to bring a more intimate riding experience to the greater network of trails in the Bentonville ecosystem. The new trails will consist of 8 miles of classic hand-built singletrack, connecting existing trail networks along the North Bentonville Trail with previously unexplored terrain east of Interstate 49. Trails in the system will travel through a variety of different zones, providing riders a unique backcountry-style riding experience.

Machine-cut trail, while efficient and vital for certain projects, is not always the best choice when a certain trail character is desired.

Handcut singletrack trail provides a unique user experience compared to trails cut by machine. With a narrower corridor, tread width, and less disturbance to the surrounding terrain, hand-cut trails ground trail users in their surroundings. Crews can often integrate more features and terrain along the trail alignment when building by hand.

The Hand-Cut Hollow was designed to provide a backcountry-style trail experience that complements the surrounding trail networks. Combined with our experience in building trails by hand, this new 8 miles of trail have added a unique flavor to the area's already world-class system of trails.
