PURGATORY BIKE PARK

DURANGO, CO

2021

With over 20 miles of lift accessible bike trails at the resort and access to 400+ miles of additional trail in the region, Purgatory Mountain is mountain biking heaven.

Located just 25 miles north of Durango and surrounded by the majestic San Juan Mountains, the resort offers world class mountain biking experiences and is a staple race venue for the highly regarded Big Mountain Enduro Race Series.

Partnering with Purgatory Resort in 2021, Singletrack Trails was contracted to reroute sections of the World Cup DH and World Cup XC trails for that year’s Big Mountain Enduro race, in addition to constructing a dual slalom race course.

Portions of the World Cup DH trail were rerouted to provide the race venue with an updated course that would challenge racers with new terrain previously unseen in years past. Existing portions of the track also required the construction of “fly-over” bridges above trails the course intersected with, allowing the public to continue to use open trails without interference from the race.

The penultimate feature of the course remains a 30ft road gap at the top half of the course consisting of a wooden decked bridge take-off and dirt landing. The feature was constructed almost entirely of natural materials on-site and stands out as an exciting show stopper during racers for competitors and racers alike.
