YOUNG'S MOUNTAIN

HENDERSONVILLE, NC

2020

Singletrack Trails was contracted in 2019 to build 2.2 miles of hiking specific trail. This trail was built by utilizing both machine and hand-build techniques in order to ensure the most sustainable trail possible. The Young’s Mountain project was an important opportunity to help protect a new conservation priority area. The Blue Ridge Escarpment is full of some of the oldest mountains in the world with steep slopes and sheer cliff faces made of limestone - a type of rock that is difficult to build with. To produce a durable build we really put our backs into it, creating beautiful stairs, on steep slopes. We also went the extra mile to preserve the area around the trail, to minimize trail building impact in this ecologically important area.
